Learning outcomes By the end of the course learners should understand: • Reportable diseases under RIDDOR 1995 • Details of The Control of Substances Hazardous to Health Regulations 1999 (COSHH) • The organisation’s infection control policy • Confidentiality issues: - What needs to remain confidential and what can not - What is meant by ‘on a need to know basis’ • Why safe practice needs to be applied at all times • The causes of infection • The transmission of infection, with particular reference to: - HIV -Hepatitis A, B, C -M.R.S.A -TB • What immunisation and treatment is available • What is involved in Universal Precautions including correct hand washing procedures • What actions the participant can take to limit the risk to themselves and the spread of infection to others within the workplace • How to deal with sharps • How to deal with needle stick injuries • The basic requirements under the COSHH Regulations- including: - identifying hazardous substances and materials - working practices relating to the safe use, storage and disposal of chemicals - appropriate methods for dealing with waste and spillage • Details of what personal protective clothing is required and how to use it correctly • How to dispose of waste safely |
