Learning outcomes By the end of the course learners should understand: • What is Diabetes • The global impact of diabetes and the current statistics • What is happening physiologically • The predisposing factors • How Diabetes manifests • What causes type 1 and type 2 Diabetes and the difference between the two • The potential complications; acute and chronic • Hypoglycemia and Hyperglycemia-causes • The management of Hypoglycemia and Hyperglycemia • What care is required to prevent the physical side effects • The importance of diet and what constitutes a healthy diet for the person • Current and future medication and treatment of Diabetes • The importance of Risk Assessment and how to assess risk • The impact on lifestyle and causes of non compliance • NICE guidelines on Diabetes • How to promote a healthy lifestyle, including exercise |
