Course Profile: Effective Delegation (Half Day)
Delegation is an essential part of managing staff or volunteers, yet often Managers find it very difficult to do as effectively as they would like. This course explores the reasons why this might be and offers a useful plan and structure which would help learners to delegate more effectively. This course is often offered in conjunction with a half day course in Stress Management and/or Time Management.

The course is informed by material from the CIPD and Assertiveness practice.

The course is designed for senior staff and team leaders in diverse settings in Health & Social Care and other contexts.
The course will assist the organisation to deliver CQC Outcome 14.
Learning outcomes

By the end of the course learners should understand:

• Why we need to delegate
• Why we might resist delegating:
        - personal drives, lack of trust, ‘Ego’ etc.
• Holding on: the potential professional and personal cost for the Manager
• What is stress and how it manifests
• The consequences for the team of not being delegated tasks
• The potential consequences for service users
• What the benefits are of delegation:
        - for the manager, staff development, the organisation
• What the constraints are
• Why we might not delegate more if we have opportunities to do so
• Guidelines for effective delegation
• The impact of poor delegation
• What the process really involves
• Creating the conditions for effective delegation
• The Delegation Plan
Training methods utilised include Warm Ups and Ice Breakers, Role Plays, Tutor Presentations, Chalk and Talk, Small Group Work, Word Storming Methods, Feedback, Handouts
