Financial Abuse (1/2 day)
This course is intended for all those who work with service users and for senior
staff who may be responsible for supervising workers and aspects of a service’s
finances.
It is designed to ensure that delegates have lots of practical opportunities to
consider financial abuse, how it can occur and prevention strategies.
Learning Objectives:
By the end of this course learners should have understood:
• How our own view of finances may influence the care we take over others’
finances– how well do we monitor &
maintain our personal finances?
• The importance of managing finances-our responsibilities
• The importance of having and complying with policies and procedures and what
influences these
• What constitutes financial abuse and how it can occur
• How to hold service users’ money in accordance with the policy
• The implications of refusing to give people their money:
-when can this be done?
-how can this be done?
• The administration requirements of the organisation in relation to financial
management and recording
• The importance of recording, monitoring and auditing
• How financial abuse can occur in terms of the services budgets
• Good finance practices in terms of the services funds e.g. budgets and budget
tracking, petty cash etc.
