Health & Safety for Safety Representatives

Current legislation requires that consultation takes place with the workforce on matters of Health & Safety. The appointment of a trained / competent Safety Representative ensures that this process not only meets requirements, but facilitates good practice and effective working. This one day course offers a brief introduction to the duties of a Safety Representative in a practical and interactive manner.

• The role & responsibilities for Safety Representatives under relevant Heath & Safety legislation -The Health & Safety at Work etc. Act 1974
        -The Safety Representatives and Safety Committees Regulations 1977
        -The Health & Safety (Consultation with Employees) Regulations 1996
        -The Management of Health & Safety at Work Regulations 1999
• How to carry out inspections • How to identify hazards within the workplace and how to progress these through the appropriate reporting systems
• How to develop comprehensive checklists for carrying out health & safety inspections, and illustrate how they relate to the risk assessment process
• The principles of accident investigation and how a safety representative can facilitate this process effectively
• The need to and how to be involved in Risk Assessment • The purpose and function of Safety Committee meetings
• The role of Safety Inspectors.
