Infection Control

This half day course is suitable for staff working in diverse roles and settings. The course will focus on providing practical information on a number of communicable diseases and general requirements under the COSHH Regulations. This information will then be used to develop effective strategies of good working practice for dealing with potentially infectious bodily fluids. The course will support the Organisation’s Health & Safety policies.
 
Learning objectives:

By the end of the day learners should be able to understand:


• Reportable diseases under RIDDOR 1995.
• The Organisation’s infection control policy.
• Confidentiality issues relating to infectious diseases.
• Why safe practice needs to be applied at all times.
• Quality, Quantity and Routes of Transmission for:
        -HIV
        -Hepatitis A, B, C.,
        -M.R.S.A
        -TB
• What immunisation is available.
• What is meant by Universal Precautions, including effective hand- washing procedures.
• Appropriate methods for dealing with waste and spillage.
• What actions the participant can take to limit the risk to themselves and the spread of infection within the workplace.
• The main requirements of The Control of Substances Hazardous to Health Regulations 1999 (COSHH).
• The main requirements of The Personal Protective Equipment Regulations 1992.
