Managing Aggression (1-3 days)
This very difficult subject is approached in a sensitive and
creative way and aims to help participants develop safe practice. The cycle
of aggression is explored from predisposing factors, identifying risk and
through to prevention of crisis. The safe management of violent incidents and
calming techniques are taught.
Please note: This course does not teach physical restraint or physical
self-defence.

How to work towards creating a non-violent culture
Why understanding the history is important
How to identify triggers
How to recognise the early warning signs
How to lower the temperature if early warning signs are indicated
De-escalation techniques
Empathic Listening as a means of diffusing violent situations
Assertiveness skills-setting limits
Managing aggression safely & within the legal framework
The rights of the carer
Managing and learning after the event (including caring for the
victim/other service users)
Development of appropriate policy & the importance of record keeping
