Mental Health Awareness for office based staff
This one day course is designed for office-based staff and non-support staff who
might have contact with service users with mental Health needs.
The course aims to help them understand the work that is undertaken by support
and housing staff within their organisation. The course also aims to assist
those who have occasional less formal contact with service users to engage in a
sensitive and respectful way.
Learning objectives:
By the end of this course learners should understand:
• What is “normal” and “abnormal”
• What we mean by Mental Illness and Mental Health
• What causes Mental Ill Health
• The different main diagnosis
• What the person might experience
• What treatment is available
• Support that their organisation provides
• The challenges to others
• Behaviour that might cause concern
• How to respond to these behaviours
• How to engage appropriately
