Safeguarding Vulnerable Adults (Refresher)

This course is suitable for members of staff who have previously attended a basic awareness training. Learners will gain an update of current guidelines and a reinforcement of their knowledge and understanding of this important theme.

Learning outcomes:

By the end of this training the learner should be able to:

• Understand the meaning of vulnerability and the pre-disposing factors
• Identify those most vulnerable and why; with reference to current statistics on abuse
• Know the different types of abuse
• Name the signs and symptoms of abuse and their manifestations
• Understand the causes of abuse:
        -Who are the abusers?
        -Why do people abuse?
• Understand the key points of current legislation and the link to the Mental Capacity Act
• Understand their duty of care
• Recognise the need for Risk Assessment and the rights of service users to take risks
• Identify actions to take
• Understand the necessity for policies and procedures to prevent abuse in the workplace
• Recording and reporting
