Supervision-Foundation (3 days)*

Supervision is a major managerial tool in social care and support. Providing regular and consistent Supervision is not only good practice but is a legal requirement.
This course, designed for senior staff and Managers offers an introduction to its purpose and function and how, when used well, it should lead to improved worker performance and better service provision.
This course is an element of The Advanced Diploma in Supervision (Accredited by SEOCN) and provides underpinning knowledge for NVQ achievement and the certificate provided at the end of the course indicates the NVQ links.

Learning objectives:

By the end of this course learners should:

• Be able to define Supervision and explain how it benefits all involved in the support process.
• Describe a variety of models, including the Norman Mark 3 element model.
• Understand the complexity of the Supervision relationship and how to manage the boundaries.
• Understand how Supervision functions within the larger professional and organisational frameworks and its
  relationship with:
        -Ad hoc support
        -Bridging Meetings
        -Appraisals
• Be able to construct a Supervision contract with reference to:
        -Frequency
        -Duration
        -Confidentiality
        -A suitable environment
        -Agendas
        -Notekeeping
        -Reviews
• Follow a recommended structure for individual sessions and a series of sessions.
• Understand the limits of the role and how to approach performance issues.
• Facilitate a Supervision session underpinned by Person Centred principles.

• please note that this three day course may be provided over 1 and 2 days, however learning outcomes would not be guaranteed in this reduced timescale and training methods would be adapted so that there would be very limited time for practical and interactive experience.
